What has actually launched?
On 20 July 2026, the European Commission announced the launch of the DPP Registry and its testing environment. The announcement follows the adoption of implementing rules for the registry. Businesses can use a registration interface or an API. Read the Commission’s launch announcement.
What does the central registry hold?
The registry stores identifiers, registration information and high-level metadata. Detailed passport content remains decentralised, hosted by the responsible business or its service provider. The registry is therefore an EU index, rather than a replacement for every product’s passport page. See the Commission’s registry explanation.
For a textile team, this means keeping two questions separate: where customers can read product information, and how the required registration is completed.
Does this make textile passports mandatory immediately?
No. The Commission’s textile page still identifies Q4 2027 as the planned adoption milestone for the textile delegated act. Registry availability does not itself establish a universal textile application date. Check the textile-specific timetable.
What can your team do now?
The official registry page links to organisation enrolment, a separate testing environment and an economic-operator user guide. Use that page to reach the official services.
Our suggested preparation step is to choose one representative garment and document its identifier, data owner and current passport address. Ask whoever will handle registration how testing, error handling and proof of submission will be managed. Keep test results separate from production records.
Where Item Twin fits
Item Twin helps organise product records, import Excel data, create QR labels and publish browser-based passports. You can use a free pilot to work through that product-data workflow with your team.
Item Twin does not currently submit passports to the EU Registry. Publishing an Item Twin passport is not evidence that EU registration has been completed.
